When People start out online and go through the throws of building that perfect site, they view traffic in a different way than someone who has been online for a while and understands the difference between traffic and highly targeted and focused traffic. When starting out and driving traffic to your web business you have to stay very focused on the kind of customer your looking for.

Who is it that you are targeting? What keywords and what tags are people going to type in to find out what you have to offer your audience? Your keyword research is so important to getting the right prospect to show up at your web page. Whether your writing articles or doing an adwords campaign, keywords and tags are everything.

Many people also make the mistake of spreading themselves to thin and they try to please the masses rather than focusing on a specific area of interest or niche. Or they will have to many products on their web page again trying to be everything to every one. This is a recipe for failure. First thing you must do for your business is to focus on a single niche and focus on what it is you have to do to get the kind of traffic that is looking for that product or products.

So many have asked me why I have 4 blogs. Well based on what I just explained, it is all about focus. Sure I could have easily put what my 4 blogs encompass all in one spot, but what that would have accomplished is mass confusion. Instead this blog is all about traffic. I don't want some one looking for how to start an internet business arriving here, as they are not at the stage of traffic as of yet, they are at the stage of what it takes to set up and run a business.

So while focusing on one niche at a time, I can offer the products that stay in that focus or niche. Also the freebies that come along and are offered, are also focused tightly and narrowly on that given niche. Another thing about focusing that tightly on a given niche makes your keyword or tagging very, very focused and not all over the place when you write for your chosen niche.

There are a few schools of thought on this, but so far from my experience, you don't have to write every day for your blog to maintain good traffic, as long as you are supplying good content that is focused around the right keywords and tags that will bring those visitors to your site or blog, you should be in good shape. It is also very important to set up your website and or your blog with some sort of analytical software so that you know exactly which keywords and or tags are really bringing you the traffic.

Personally I use Google analytics to give me some of the information I need and your hosting company should give you some form of traffic reports to help you decipher which is working best and where most of your traffic is coming from so that you can focus on what works.

4) If you are spending money on traffic, develop crazy pay-per-click campaigns. I know it is easy to go overboard. Monitor everything you do, and keep track of subscribers.

5) Give everyone on your list some crazy thing free. Today. Just send it to them. Tell them to give it to their friends. (Just make sure it has your link in it!)

6) Create a crazy offer for potential JV partners. Focus on sending their customers to your site. Focus on making subscribers out of their customers.

7) Link-build like crazy. Trade links with everyone you can---but do not use link farms or any other commercial method of building links. Do it the hard way, the old-fashioned way--one link at a time.

2. Every time you add a new post on your blog, ping the major blog directories.

3. Make sure your blog is optimized. Submit your blog to the major search engines to make sure that their spiders visit your site on a regular basis.

4. Read and comment on at least 5 other blogs each day. Don't just say, 'Nice blog' or 'Good post.' Leave meaningful comments that have some substance. Make sure you leave your blog address on each comment you enter.

5. Submit your blog to the large blog directories.

6. Include a counter within your blog that monitors total traffic and unique visitors. This can tell you what techniques are working best for you.

7. Add an RSS feed that people can subscribe to on your blog and your website (if you have one).

6. Create an affiliate marketing blog and update your content and keywords often. Occasionally, place some affiliate links to quality merchant products, this helps affiliates succeed.

7. Create simple yet affective internet marketing formula that can be condensed into a 10-20 page free PDF. Load the e-book with your affiliate links, products needed for your specific forumla to prosper.

8. Use your opt-in list and start your own affiliate marketing newsletter with valuable information on the best multi-tier affiliate marketing programs. First off let me say that this is not an article targeting any particular program or product. What I want to look at is a funnel system that I feel is the best way to make money at home online today.

1. You obviously need a product, and I'm partial to affiliate marketing as a way to find that, but I'm going to assume that you will find something to sell that will make you money. I'm not trying to say that a product is not important, but you'll have to decide what you want to sell.

2. You need a pre-sell webpage, or a landing page. Your primary purpose is to provide a little bit of information and get your visitor excited enough to give you their contact information for future follow. You're not trying to make the sale, but you're just trying to get their name and e-mail address, or to get the click through to your sales page.

3. Once you've gotten your visitors contact information it needs to be sent via a sign-up form to an auto responder. I personally like Aweber, but there are a number of quality auto responders available online.

In your autoresponder you need to have a series of 5-10 prewritten messages that offer more information designed to build your credibility. When talking about the product you hope to sell in the initial first couple messages you may not even want to directly identify the product or website sales page.

4. Once you've gotten the contact information of your visitor they should be sent to your blog where you have additional articles that discuss more about the niche that your product is in. Blogging is extremely important today for attracting traffic and building credibility.

5. The final thing you want to do is to consistently mail to your list as you build it. The way to make money online is to sell products. Many people miss this point, and they spend all their time building relationships and this sort of thing when in reality that is important, but if you're not selling you are not making money.

What you're really doing here is creating a funnel for the traffic that you are attracting. As you can see in this example, a final we are talking about contains a quality product, a landing page or presale page, an auto responder for follow-up, a blog for search engine traffic in building your credibility, and a strategy to be sure you're selling all the time.

The only thing we haven't discussed is how to get traffic into the final. There are a number of different ways to do this, including pay per click advertising, article marketing, blogging and social bookmarking, forum marketing, classified ads, e-zine advertising, social networking, or just plain buying it.

The benefit of approaching how you make money online using this strategy is you are create a long term approach to your success. Having an e-mail marketing lists can pay off for you for many years to come.

Blogging can create search engine bait that can produce additional traffic for many years to come as well. Once you master this basic system you can do it over and over for any product that you want.

4. Place these products on your website or blog - once you have found the products you want to promote, just copy the simple code for each product to your website or blog. A couple of weeks ago I was searching the net on ways to make some extra money. I had heard that most of the data entry, work-from-home jobs and paid surveys were scams or a waste of time. I had a friend who tried one of those data entry jobs. It seemed to be legitimate, but she didn't make any money. I had also tried a couple of those paid surveys. It was question after endless question; I never made it to the end. Throughout the survey you were required to sign up for a certain number of trial memberships that offer a "free" gift (you just pay for shipping). Then you're charged a monthly fee, if you don't cancel the membership.

By the way, I hate those "free" gift deals. I always forget to cancel and that's what they're counting on. I completely avoid those deals now. But if you're tempted to accept one of those free gift deals, I would suggest trying to contact their customer service department first before you give them your credit card number. It's never happened to me, but I've heard of cases where the customer service department is totally unavailable to cancel the membership and your card continues to be charged. (This is a good reason to always use Paypal. It's more secure and it will save you the hassle of getting a new bank card or credit card number).

The idea of starting my own online business was very appealing to me. Also, I thought it would be really great to have my own website. Unfortunately, I was totally clueless as to how to go about it and I didn't have a lot of money to invest. I knew I needed some education and guidance, but there were so many programs out there it was hard to decide. Plus, most of them ranged in price from $50 to $100. That was more than I was willing to fork over. You probably already know this. However, since I was not very computer savvy, I didn't. I found out by accident (by being cheap) that most companies will offer you a discount price if you try to exit their order page. Well, I got lucky and found a program for less than $20. The program was very well organized and walked me through the process of starting my online business. Then for an additional investment of $20 I got my own website. ($10 per year for the domain name and $10 per month for the web host). And it was easy; they did it for me. I didn't have to learn anything technical. (Actually, the website was optional, but I decided that it would give me more opportunities and it didn't cost much).

So, I spent a total of $37. That's the price of 2 CD's or 2 DVD's that I would play once and forget about. It's also the price of a book that I'd buy and never read. (I have stacks of those). Instead, I have a website capable of generating money, a head full of ideas on how to make money on the internet, and the knowledge of how to do it. The educational program that I found would definitely be my number one pick for any beginner who wants to learn how to start an online business at a low cost.
